This drug gets into the action by inhibiting the action of enzyme DNA gyrase and blocks the synthesis of bacterial DNA. This would in turn results in stimulation of damage in Double-stranded DNA by preventing DNA relaxation. In this way, this medicine inhibits the cell division of bacteria to prevent the infections from occurring due to the bacteria.

How effective is this medicine?

Ciprotab is rapidly absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract through cells and tissues. Due to this, once this drug is taken orally, it shows its effect within 2 to 3  hours and lasts long up to 24 hours. But the condition will be cured only after few days.

Is it addictive?

No, this is not addictive and does not have any active ingredients which elicit a dependence or habit-forming characters. Hence it is not proved to have any addictive properties.


What is the dosage?

The common dosage of this drug is about 250 mg to 750 mg which is taken for every 12 hours for about 14 days. But the dosage of the drug depends upon the following conditions,

  • Sex of the patient
  • The weight of the patient
  • Age of the patient
  • Previous medical history
  • The disease or condition has to be treated

The different dosage for various conditions are listed below for adults,

  • For Urinary tract infection (UTI), the initial dosage is about 25m mg to 500 mg every 12 hours for 14 days.
  • For bone and joint infections, the dosage is between 250 mg and 750 mg every 12 hours for 8 weeks.
  • For diarrhoea caused by bacterial infection, the dosage is about 500 mg every 12 hours for 1 week.
  • For Respiratory tract infection, the dosage ranges from 500 mg to 750 mg every 12 hours for 1 week to 2 weeks.
  • For a sinus infection, the minimal dosage is 500 mg every 12 hours for 10 days.
  • For abdominal infections, the dosage is about 500 mg every 12 hours for 7 days to 14 days.

In children, those from  1 year to 17 years, the dosage is between 10 mg to 20 mg /kg for every 12 hours for 10 days to 21 days. This dosage may be gradually increased according to the medical condition and its effect on the patient. But increase your dose as per the advice of your doctor and it should be noted that the dosage for children should not exceed more than 750 mg per day.

In case of ophthalmic drops, it should be used once or twice in a day.

What if I miss a dose?

If you missed a dose of this drug, try to take the missed dose immediately as soon as you remember it. If it is already time for your next dosage, do not take the missed dose on that time as it may lead to double dosage. In that situation, just go on and keep continuing and maintain with your regular dosage. Try not to miss the dose as it is necessary that a little amount of drug should be always present in the body.
